Registered Nurse Livingston Healthcare - Family Birth Center 

​I finally started my dream job as an LDRP nurse at the Family Birth Center after about six months of cross training on the medical surgical unit and I was so excited to be learning all things perinatal nursing. During these las four years in the family birth center I have provided care for patients throughout various stages of pregnancy, labor, delivery, recovery, postpartum, as well as pre/post surgical status. I have provided exemplary care and regularly receive positive feedback from patients and coworkers. Providing one on one care to families during a critical time in their pregnancy journey and monitoring maternal health alongside subtle fetal heart rate changes is a challenging but critical part of this job. I am often responsible for identifying potential crisis and intervening before the situation becomes acute. This job combines critical patient care with community care and patient education which is one of the aspects of this job I enjoy the most. I have worked alongside an excellent team to provide the best possible care to our patients during one of the most important times of their lives.

Registered Nurse Livingston Healthcare - Medical Surgical Unit 

​Although I was directly hired to the Family Birth Center due to orientation schedules I was offered the opportunity to cross train on the Medical Surgical unit until there was a space for me to begin orientation on the Family Birth Center. I was excited to accept this learning opportunity and had always heard that as a new grad nurse starting on a unit like this provided invaluable learning opportunities. I enjoyed my time caring for a diverse patient population on a busy unit where it was typical to have around four to five patients at a time who are experiencing a variety of medial problems. It was during my time on this unit that I became comfortable monitoring patients on telemetry, managing patients with multiple comorbidities, communicating with a care team, and recognizing and acting on acute situations appropriately. This was my introduction to professional nursing and I could not have asked for a better experience, I learned so much on this unit and over the last four years as a nurse I still occasionally dust off my Med/Surg skills and float over to the unit to help out during extra busy times and I am always reminded of what a great foundation this job gave me.

Student Nurse - Cleveland Clinic (various departments) - January 2021 - May 2022 

I completed over 740 hours of clinical experience across various disciplines at Cleveland Clinic, where i developed key nursing skills and clinical judgment through mostly one on one preceptorships. I was able to take the lead and care for multiple acute patients at a time while being supervised by an experienced nurse. Throughout my time in nursing school I regularly got excellent patient satisfaction scores and great reviews from my preceptors and clinical instructors. I not only provided direct patient care but created detailed care plans and discussed treatment options with other nurses and providers to coordinate effective care. My time as a student nurse during these clinical expereiences prepared me to be the type of nurse that advocates for their patients, pays attention to small changes in patient status, and provides quality care that promotes autonomy and safety. 

 

Medical Assistant - Evolved Medical - June 2018 - November 2020 

After graduating from college, I sought a job in the medical field to gain valuable experience while finishing prerequisite classes for nursing school. I began working as a medical assistant for a doctor specializing in bio-identical hormone replacement therapy. While working at this office I also gained experience in preparing platelet rich plasma injections using a centrifuge, and was responsible for direct patient care. Other responsibilities included patient education, walking through consent forms, and answering all questions along the way. I maintained the office schedule and performed patient care services to limit the amount of tasks for the physician. I assisted during in-office procedures and took vitals during patient intake. While originally given the title of medical assistant, as the sole employee of the doctor I was responsible for office management tasks as well. Along with the direct patient care duties of a medical assistant, I was responsible for all front desk administrative tasks and back of office stocking and organizing. This unique and valuable experience has left me feeling very prepared to work along side doctors and other staff in a medical environment. I feel confident in abilities to work as both a leader and a valuable member of any team.

Internship - Alabama Prison Birth Project - Spring 2018

In my last semester of college, I had the privilege of being a full-time intern for the Alabama Prison Birth Project, a non-profit organization that works with incarcerated pregnant women in order to educate on healthy pregnancy, what to expect postpartum, and crucial parenting skills that help to break cycles of trauma. The goal of the program is to help mothers form healthy bonds with their babies and help improve the birth outcomes of babies born to incarcerated mothers. I was able to work hands on by teaching during the weekly meetings at the prison as well as work behind the scenes to help research, spread our message, and work with donors and volunteers. During my internship, I was also the director of Internships and Volunteer Involvement, meaning I was responsible for recruiting, interviewing, and aiding in the selection of the next interns. Throughout my internship, I worked on various projects such as the year-end report, brochures, and the social media pages and blog. You can find some samples of this work on the “Work Samples” page. This internship gave me so much valuable work experience, and I truly feel better prepared for any job I might have in the future after having completed the internship.

Student Intern - RSVP OBGYN - Summer 2016

During my time at RSVP, I routinely assisted in tasks such as preparing rooms for exams, preparing charts for the physicians, testing urine samples, and sending tissue samples out for testing. I also observed a number of exams, including annual check-ups, pregnancy confirmations, postpartum visits, and pregnancy checkups through various stages. I was also able to observed a few procedures, including IUD insertion, Nexplan removal, and cervical tissue biopsies. I observed and assisted during numerous ultra sounds and gained experience identifying the fetal heart beat and evaluate normal development. I learned how to measure fundal height and locate the fetal heart beat using a doppler. I also gained experience in using the electronic health record system used by the office and gained experience rooming patients, completing vital checks, and charting. Overall, I spent more than 80 hours shadowing and gaining experience that confirmed my desire to pursue a career in the demanding but rewarding field of healthcare.
